Howzit, su. Howzit, bru.
My name is Jaco, pronounced ya•ku. I’m a South African, originally from Cape Town, living in Northumberland in the UK.
It’s a full circle of sorts, because as I was turning 20, my adventures started with a working holiday to the UK. What should have been 2 years away turned into 20…

I was once labeled – and it was meant as an insult – a blogger, a traveler and an eco-warrior. As you may glean from this site, that’s actually quite accurate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You’ll also find from my posts that I can be direct, and plenty sarcastic. Sometimes also the other way around. I think of myself as pretty honest when nobody’s looking, and I am giving until taken advantage of. I value quality over quantity, experiences over possessions. I believe in the good in others, science over faith, and that everyone is beautiful in their own way.
So, what’s this about then?
When I started this blog circa 2005, it was called “1 Earth – 6.5 billion adventures“. It referred to the earth’s population count, and the potential to share in the adventures, which I believed then as I do now, every person on this planet has to offer.
Here we are, 18 years later and 1.5 billion people more. I’m a little behind.
