Howzit, su. Howzit, bru.
My name is Jaco, pronounced ya•ku, and I’m a South African unsurprisingly living in South Africa. Cape Town, to be exact. The city where I was born and raised.
As I was turning 20, I embarked on Working Holiday to the UK. There 2 years away turned into 20…

I was once labeled – and it was meant as an insult – a blogger, a traveler and an eco-warrior. As you may glean from this site, that’s actually quite accurate ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You’ll also find from my posts that I can be direct, and plenty sarcastic. Sometimes also the other way around. I think of myself as pretty honest when nobody’s looking, and I am giving until taken advantage of. I value quality over quantity, experiences over possessions. I believe in the good in others, science over faith, and that everyone is beautiful in their own way.
So, what’s this about then?
When I started this blog circa 2005, it was called “1 Earth – 6.5 billion adventures“. It referred to the earth’s population count, and the potential to share in the adventures, which I believed then as I do now, every person on this planet has to offer.
Here we are, 15 years later, and 1.1 billion people more. I’m a little behind.
